shizuoka destillery potstill k japanese barley first edition 2023 edition 500mlIn mid 2023, the Shizuoka Distillery launched this second edition of Potstill K Local Barley, using only Japanese barley. This single malt whisky was distilled in the only remaining still of the legendary Karuizawa distillery. After just over three years of maturation in bourbon casks, it was bottled at a robust 55% ABV.

These were bottled at cask strength

The entry-level whisky from the Sasanokawa distillery

Unlike the other 100th Anniversary bottlings

This bottling is normally only available exclusively at the Hakushu Distillery

Jim Murray also awarded it 96 out of 100 points in his Whisky Bible 2014

which were then finished in red wine casks

This step was necessary because the distillery hadn't yet produced enough whisky to warrant a bottling with whiskies from its own distillery

This blend is named after a butterfly that is native to the area around the distillery

Mars again released a limited-edition bottling of IWAI Tradition on the Japanese and US markets

limited to 1

At 22% ABV

and is even rarer
