An Ebonised & Upholstered Philip Webb for Morris & Co Type Reclining Armchair c.1875Origin: English Period: Aesthetic Movement Provenance: Unknown Date: c. 1870 80 Height: 41 (at highest setting) Width: 23. 5 Depth: 32 reclining to 41 The ebonised Morris & Co style reclining armchair, made after a design by Philip Speakman Webb, the three setting adjustable bar back to a swept frame and arms with turned column uprights with carved supports and slender sabre legs, on the original brass castors to the front and to concealed ball

They are structurally sound and have wear to the paint commensurate with heavy use having been picked up and put back down again many a time in the chemists shop

and bringing "air-mindedness" to the population continuing until 1935

after the first edition published in 1851

A truly elegant piece of Regency furniture that would slip into any room of quality with consummate ease due to its beautiful decoration

His landscapes were mostly of coastal scenes

sporting the famous Coca-Cola logo to the center in the wonderful Spencerian Script font type

The whole could be cleaned if so desired but we prefer to leave it as is

It would have required quite a skilful act of balance to walk on them and the child would have been from a well off family

but another possibility was that there once would have been either wooden limb sections or further parts for the head and if it were at once stage attached to a body it may have been seated on a stool

showing a good sense for colour and balance
